Introduction & Project Brief

Daures Green Hydrogen Village Phase 2 (DGHV Phase 2) is Namibia’s first commercial-scale green ammonia and ammonium sulphate fertiliser production facility, located in the Dâures Constituency of the Erongo Region. Built on 15,000 hectares of arid, un-farmable land, the project harnesses Namibia’s world-class solar and wind resources to produce clean industrial inputs that would otherwise depend on fossil fuels and expensive imports.

Using 100% off-grid renewable energy, 60 MWp solar, 10 MW wind, and 65 MWh BESS, the facility splits water into green hydrogen through electrolysis, then converts that hydrogen into ammonia and fertiliser through a proven synthesis process. No fossil fuels, no grid connection, low-carbon production, with approximately 48,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent avoided annually.

The project builds directly on the success of the Phase 1 and Phase 1.5 pilot plants already operational at the Dâures site, which have demonstrated that the technology works in Namibian conditions, and expected to produce Namibia’s first locally manufactured green fertiliser by Q4 2026. Phase 2 scales this into a commercial facility producing 20,000 tonnes of green ammonia and up to 80,000 tonnes of ammonium sulphate fertiliser per year.

DGHV Phase 2 is developed by Enersense Energy Namibia (Pty) Ltd through the project company Daures Fertilizer Solutions (Pty) Ltd, with Mondjila Project Advisory and Management (MPAM) as Transaction Advisor and Project Manager.

The development is co-funded by SDG Namibia One, Namibia’s dedicated energy transition and green hydrogen fund managed by Namibia Hydrogen Fund Managers, a partnership between Climate Fund Managers, Invest International, and the Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia. SDG Namibia One is committing up to USD 3.6 million as co-developer, with development funding provided by the European Union under its Global Gateway strategy and Invest International.

Key Project Data

DGHV Phase 2 is more than an energy project. It is an economic development catalyst for Namibia, creating jobs, strengthening food security, supporting local communities, and demonstrating that green industrialisation is possible right here in the desert.
